Today, I had the pleasure of filming the Spring gathering in Membertou in the Kluskap room at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre. The site was also the finale for the Isle of Story Festival.
There were several stories being told here mixed with inter-tribal dancing and drumming music from the Sons of Membertou. The dancers, both young and old, were all dressed in their cultural regalia.
As you can probably gather from the photo, there was soup and sandwiches to be had during the intermission (catered by Kiju’s).
I must say, hearing the creation story for the Mi’kmaq was very interesting and showed the pride that the Mi’kmaq people have for their culture.
The Isle of Story Festival met its goal of sharing 150 stories. So, a celebration was to be had.
